Prepare them for the road

Prepare the road for the child, goes the parenting advice, or prepare the child for the road.

The message is that parents can’t really, though we try, make the world a safe, welcome, or failure-free place for our kids. No, but parents can make them tough, curious, and resilient (or even antifragile?).

Parents can’t prepare the road but they can prepare the child.

As entrepreneurs, this advice reads differently.

Prepare the road for the employee by designing situations where they can succeed.

Prepare the road for the customer by understanding what they want and making that easy.

Every business model has different levers: more of this or less of that.

Life is messy. Make it less so. Prepare the road.
