Specialization is for Insects

You must be a Polymath

Corporate structures reward intense specialization.

CRM implementors, human resource documentation experts, and dedicated sales closets are rewarded for narrowing their focus with job security and rising compensation.

However, entrepreneurs will not be compensated handsomely for a narrow breadth of skills. Many technical founders will fail if they can’t sell. Elite marketers can be burned by an inability to vet talent.

So, your only option is to study intensely across a wide variety of domains.

Can you read a contract? Do you know how to onboard and train team members? Can you read your P&L?

Yes, eventually, if you surround yourself with enough talent, these tasks can be delegated. But in the early days, before you’ve turned your snowflakes into a snowball, the momentum and alignment must be created by you.

It can feel depleting, frustrating, and humbling. But that’s exactly why most founders fall short.

Make the choice to lean into the frustration with humility, so that you can build the foundation correctly. From there, your structure can grow to be resilient and towering.
