The RX is Sales

The story of RXBAR is good because it’s mundane.

Each problem co-founders Peter Rahal and Jared Smith solved on their way to a six hundred million dollar sale to Kelloggs in 2018 was one anyone could solve.

First, they asked Peter’s dad for some money. HAHAHAHA he laughed them out of the room. Go sell your product, he told them.

Then they thought about partnering with a commercial kitchen. Instead, they worked in Peter’s basement using his mom’s Cuisinart.

Maybe, they thought, they needed a designer for the packaging. They used PowerPoint.

Focus groups? A/B testing? Nope. They took the bars to the local CrossFit and asked people what they thought.

Your job is not to get investments, make viral videos, or become a thought leader. Those can be actions that support the job, but it’s not your job.

Your ‘RX’ is sales.
