PR is Overrated

Build for a Decade First?

Brett Adcock spent a decade avoiding public relations. It did not stop him from finding success.

In fact, Brett is in the 99.99th percentile of entrepreneurs.

In 2012, he founded Vettery, an online talent marketplace. He raised just $12 million in venture capital and sold it for $110 Million in 2018 to the Adecco Group.

That same year, Adcock founded Archer Aviation, an aerospace company building electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. Archer Aviation went public in 2021 at a valuation of $2.7 billion.

Yet, he was completely off the radar for most business news & podcast followers.

Why?

Brett made an explicit choice to deprioritize company inputs: PR, legal, flashy investor names, and events. He sees them as “window dressing”.

This allows him to focus all of effort on his top priority. An exceptional product.

This axiomatic truth sits at the heart of most business strategy decisions.

“If you build it, they will come” is only true when your product is truly exceptional. If you build a mediocre product only to your nose up at promotion, you’ll have a recipe for floundering.
