Steve Jobs is an icon, revered for his entrepreneurial achievements.
Born from a garage in California, he and Steve Wozniak built the world’s biggest technology company and the most successful consumer product of all time.
It’s easy to equate his talent with other historic greats like LeBron, Serena, and Tiger.
But, the crazy thing about entrepreneurship is that someone influenced everyone. We’re social creatures that learn through mimicry before charting a path of our own.
Steve Jobs was deeply influenced by the work of Edwin Land, founder of Polaroid. Early in life, Land realized that the way pictures were taken was poised for a technological breakthrough, but 99.9% of people didn’t understand the ramifications.
He spent the next 4 decades revolutionizing the world of photography, creating patents, acclaim, and hundreds of millions in revenue.
Jobs came to a similar conclusion about personal computing. Unfortunately, he didn’t get as long to build his company.
You don’t need to be completely unique. Study the greats and leverage the insights that they took decades to uncover.
